Pinnacle Rock is one of the most famous landmarks in the Galapagos. Located on Bartolome Island, it is an immense spearheaded obelisk rising from the water surface. At the base of this famous rock, and along its volcanic ledges, is usual to spot the only species of penguins living north of the equator, the Endemic Galapagos Penguin. Sea lions, tropical fish, sea stars and anemones also populate the area. Just east of Pinnacle Rock there is a sea turtle nesting site, where sea turtles resting on the sandy beach are a common sight.
